Spotlight on You

Sarah Humphrey and Janine Kraus were announced by the Texas Health Resources Foundation as new vice presidents to lead fundraising efforts in the Greater Fort Worth and North regions. These leaders will join Shannon Fisher, vice president of Foundation and Fund Development, who is currently responsible for the Greater Dallas fundraising strategy and Community Impact. Kraus will serve as vice president of Foundation and Fund Development in Greater Fort Worth, and Humphrey will serve as vice president of Foundation and Fund Development in the North Region.

Emmanuel Wallace, intern at Farm Credit Mid-America, was featured by the company for his unique career path story. A summer program at Tennessee State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), helped Wallace to decide on pivoting from a career in engineering to agriculture. An internship with Farm Credit, as part of the company's Launching Leaders program for students at HBCUs, helped solidify that career path. His plan after TSU is to get a master’s in public administration, which he hopes will ultimately lead to a job affecting change. “Most of the time agriculture, especially with policy, is tied to farmers and the rural communities because that’s where agriculture is," says Wallace. "But at the same time certain policies also affect the inner-city communities and we need farming programs so we have access to fresh food as well.”

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation has awarded more than $1.2M in grants to 11 nonprofits in Minnesota to support their efforts in helping people access health care coverage. The grants are part of a specific strategy within the Foundation, which seeks to increase health care coverage across Minnesota, build capacity in the grantee organizations and increase awareness about the communities in Minnesota most impacted by a lack of health coverage.

Kiddie Academy is hosting children and families for its Field Day program, a fitness-themed event filled with developmentally appropriate games and physical activities, while supporting various nonprofit groups with donations. One charity recipient will be Kiddie Academy's national partnering nonprofit, Family Promise, an organization designed to empower families experiencing homelessness. Field Day will be hosted at Kiddie Academy locations across the country during the month of November.

National Grid will become the first energy company in the Northeast to pilot a fully electric Ford E-Transit cargo van for day-to-day operations in a pilot collaboration with Ford Motor Company. Throughout the one-month pilot, the vehicle will be used to perform normal field work that is ordinarily done by gas-powered vehicles, such as regular home meter-readings. National Grid announced the news as an important step toward reaching its company-wide goal of moving to a 100% electric fleet by 2030 for its light-duty vehicles.

Sempra Foundation was featured in the Times of San Diego for donating nearly $500,000 to an organization based in Tijuana in an effort to improve energy access and reduce emissions in Mexico. The funds will allow Fundacion Mozcalti to provide cleaner cook stoves to vulnerable and indigenous communities. The donation is slated to benefit 28 communities, with approximately 2,400 households receiving stoves in the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Morelos, Nuevo Leon, and Puebla.
