Spotlight on You

Monika Jankowska-Rangelov, EMEA head of inclusion, diversity and equity at State Street was recognized as a Business Disability Forum Diversity & Inclusion Professional at the Disability Smart Awards. "I am honored and touched by this recognition," said Jankowska-Rangelov. "I put all my heart in initiatives and programs to support others as I feel privileged to be able to work and live my life to the fullest." Jankowska-Rangelov was celebrated by her State Street colleague Joan Christel, senior vice president - head of corporate citizenship & global inclusion, on LinkedIn.

Jennifer Leitsch has joined EY as managing director in the climate change and sustainability services practice. Leitsch previously served as vice president, corporate responsibility at CBRE. "I am thrilled to be joining an incredible team of colleagues who are living the company’s purpose of building a better working world."

Charles Neidenbach has joined Nasdaq as lead ESG advisor. "This is a dream next step along my sustainability career journey," said Neidenbach on LinkedIn. "I can’t wait to get to work with the team."

Geoff Morrell has been announced as chief corporate affairs officer at the Walt Disney Company, in a newly created position. Morrell, previously head of Communications and Advocacy at the global energy company BP, will oversee Disney’s corporate communications, global public policy, government relations, corporate social responsibility and environmental, social and governance teams.

Klare Shaw, national director of programs for the Liberty Mutual Foundation, has announced her intention to retire at the end of 2021. Since joining Liberty in 2014, Klare has strengthened the impact of Liberty Mutual Foundation using her expertise within the field of philanthropy and her deep knowledge of the community. Klare’s accomplishments at Liberty include: launching an initiative focused on youth homelessness, spearheading efforts to advance equity and leading our creation of a universally accessible playground in Plano Texas. With this news, Bryan Spence, senior program manager for the Liberty Mutual Foundation, has accepted the role of National Program Director. In assuming this new role, Bryan will draw upon his many years of philanthropic experience at MetLife, Delta Dental, Clipper Ship Foundation as well as his leadership roles at community-based organizations such as Ellis Early Learning and EdVestors.

Cisco will award $1 million to startups and entrepreneurs addressing social issues and climate change with its sixth-annual Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge. The challenge was launched in 2016 to jumpstart innovative ideas that benefit society, catalyze economic growth, and create jobs. Since then, Cisco has awarded $2.25 million to 63 start-ups in 20 countries. This year, prizes will go to teams with solutions that can reduce or remove greenhouse gas (GHG) from the environment or regenerate depleted ecosystems.

DTE Energy Foundation was featured in DBusiness for awarding grants to seven Michigan organizations focused on arts and culture and enriching diverse communities across the state. Organizations will use this support to encourage cultural understanding, offer special experiences to youth, and honor unique qualities and perspectives of their regions. The DTE Foundation’s goal is to encourage diverse communities by addressing racial equity and justice through arts education, public engagement work, and cultural institutions.

GE Johnson hosted a mental health awareness week in November 2021, themed Starting Together, which was featured in Mile High CRE. The week was used as a time for the company to talk about mental health at work and provide some tools for improving mental health at work and at home. Daily communications included topics on identifying stressors, promoting self-care, and making connections. Tools and resources were sent to staff and craft along with home mailers for families to get involved. GE Johnson is part of the DPR Construction family of companies.

Trane Technologies has launched its 2022-2023 Trane Technician of the Future Scholarship, and is now accepting applications through March 1, 2022. The Trane Technician of the Future Scholarship provides essential financial support for aspiring HVAC or controls technicians launching their career, and will engage a diverse pool of students from across the United States and Canada. A minimum of 14 recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, leadership and participation, long-term career and educational goals, financial need, and other criteria.

SMUD was recognized by two members of the California state legislature for being the first large utility in the country to adopt a Zero Carbon Plan that will completely eliminate carbon from its electricity generation by 2030. "SMUD’s Zero Carbon Plan includes retiring carbon emitting natural gas plants and relies heavily on the electrification of the building and transportation sectors since these are two of the largest carbon emitting sectors in the State," wrote State Sen. Richard Pan and Assemblyman Ken Cooley wrote in an op-ed for the Elk Grove Citizen. "It’s the most ambitious of any large utility in the nation and their commitment to our community and equity for all is one to be commended and recognized."
