At a Fortune conference earlier this month, business leaders responsible for their organizations’ ESG efforts weighed in on how the landscape is changing—and on how much work lies ahead. U.S. companies operating globally are already dealing with ESG reporting elsewhere, observed Faith Taylor, chief sustainability officer at Kyndryl, an IT infrastructure company with 90,000 staff worldwide. “I have to figure out what are those main components in ESG that we have to report on regardless and figure out what that baseline is, across regulatory requirements and the frameworks that you’re using,” Taylor said. “And then say, ‘OK, this is how we’re going to actually manage that.’”
Jenna Broach, senior social impact manager at Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, was recently accepted to the Communities Foundation of Texas Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy 2023 cohort. Broach shared via LinkedIn she is, "looking forward to developing a better understanding of how to approach philanthropic issues and network with like-minded professionals with a passion for community."
Member Companies in the News
onsemi recently expanded its employee volunteer program (EVP) to employees in Asia and Europe. Through the EVP, employees may volunteer with eligible organizations during company time for up to one day, traditionally 8-12 hours per year, depending on their role at the company, while receiving their typical pay for the time spent. Employees are encouraged to participate in volunteer events organized by the company as well. To incentivize goodness, onsemi also matches employees’ volunteer efforts through a dollars-for-doers program, where the company donates $10 per hour (or country equivalent) to approved charities and educational institutions for each hour volunteered.
TELUS launched its newest Community Board, marking the expansion of the company’s distinctive global philanthropic initiative, which entrusts distinguished local leaders with the allocation of grants to grassroots organizations that support vulnerable youth. The TELUS North Carolina Community Board builds on the efforts of team members from TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods, who have been giving back across the state for over 20 years. The board will award more than $1 million over the next four years to youth programs with a focus on health, education, the environment and technology.
Florida Blue announced plans to increase Hurricane Ian relief efforts to total $2 million. The additional funding will support 22 local and regional organizations. “The losses that Floridians are still coping with are unimaginable,” said Susan Towler, Florida Blue executive director, Corporate Social Responsibility. “As part of our efforts to create strong, resilient communities, we remain committed to being there for the people in our state and making sure they have the essential supplies and support to meet their most immediate needs, including support for their physical health and mental well-being.”
Cisco recently released its 2022 Purpose Report, which details the company’s efforts to embody its mission to power an inclusive future for all. The report showcases the company’s initiatives in areas such as sustainability, inclusion and diversity, human rights, education, economic development, and crisis response. Among other achievements, Cisco highlights how it maintained more than 80% employee participation in community impact for the third year in a row and positively impacted 848 million people through its social impact grants and signature programs. It also reduced Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 39% compared to FY19 base year.
This November, Fedex supported Direct Relief in its effort to deliver more than 2,000 pounds of essential cholera treatment supplies to Haiti. Haiti is experiencing a confluence of challenges, including historic food insecurity levels, fuel shortages, and severe civil instability, all of which are exacerbating the cholera outbreak. The country recorded a 72% suspected increase in cases between November 3 and November 11. Direct Relief’s supplies include oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and lactated ringers (a fluid replacement product)–both critical to treat people with cholera. Fedex has been a longtime partner of the nonprofit, providing annual cash and in-kind donations to the organization.
Comerica Bank recently revealed plans for Comerica BusinessHQ, a collaborative space that will provide integral services and value to small businesses in the Southern sector of Dallas. Comerica is transforming idle real estate on the first floor of its R.L. Thornton location into a unique community resource that provides high-need, high-opportunity small businesses with the necessary tools to develop, grow and endure.
