Company Responses to Wildfires in Maui: A Roundup

The devastating losses caused by wildfires in Maui, Hawaii's second-largest island, continue to mount. Many remain missing. Many more are without food and shelter.

Companies and Organizations Responding to the Wildfire Disaster in Maui

Hawaiian Electric 

Hawaiian Electric is currently coordinating and assisting with State and County emergency response efforts in West Maui

Hawaiian Airlines

The company released the following statement:

"We continue to operate flights to and from Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) and have added extra flights to focus on bringing guests out of Maui. Seats remain available today through Monday, August 14, 2023 for $19 to facilitate urgent travel out of Maui. We encourage you to book online as our Reservations line services guests with waivers and refunds. Additionally, we are continuing to coordinate with the state, county and non-profits to transport first responders, equipment and supplies to Maui."

Council of Native Hawaiian Advancement

CNHA is partnering with Native Hawaiian and community organizations and businesses to match up to $1,000,000 in donations for ʻohana impacted by the devastating wildfires on Maui.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is sending rescue flights & wildfire relief to help people on Maui. The airline is donating five million miles in partnership with Maui Rapid Response, a local collective disaster response organization, the donated miles will be used by Kanu Hawai‘i to provide travel for Maui residents displaced by the fire so that they can relocate while they work to rebuild what they have lost. The Alaska Airlines Foundation is also donating $25,000 to the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA), which is a member-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to enhance the cultural, economic, political, and community development of Native Hawaiians. CNHA has pledged to match the airline's donation up to $250,000 in support of Maui wildfire relief efforts. Alaska employees are also able to support CNHA through Alaska’s matching gift program. Matson

Matson is working closely with federal, state, and county emergency response agencies to assess needs and prioritize the movement of emergency equipment and supplies.

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue is joining the relief effort by donating one dollar for every customer order made through its official L&L Hawaiian Barbecue mobile app and online website orders, up to $10,000. The relief effort by the company will run through August 31, 2023, to the American Red Cross of Hawaii, providing shelter and comfort to thousands of people who were forced to evacuate due to the massive fires.

Seattle Sun Tan 

Seattle Sun Tan, the premier tanning destination in the Pacific Northwest, is launching "A Ray of Hope for Maui," a fundraising campaign that will donate 10% of all in-store revenue generated on Friday August 11th from its 34 locations across Washington and Idaho to three outstanding Maui nonprofit organizations: United Way Fire Relief, Maui Strong and Maui Mutual Aid. In addition, Seattle Sun Tan's online fundraiser will donate 100% of all donations given at www.seattlesuntan.com/maui or in stores, through August 31, 2023.

U-Haul

U-Haul® is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box® container usage to residents who have been impacted by the deadly fires burning across Maui.
