The Profile of the Professionals 2018 provides insight into the norms and trends in corporate citizenship departments across the country, such as the rising number of corporate citizenship professionals and the challenges of interdepartmental engagement. Despite a few discouraging trends in corporate citizenship professionalism, such as the persistence of a gender wage gap and lack of women in high-level corporate citizenship positions, overall corporate citizenship is a growing priority for companies worldwide.

Colleen Olphert
Director, Membership and Member Services, Boston College Center for Corporate CitizenshipIn her role as Director of Membership and Member Services, Colleen leads the strategy and operations related to the recruitment and retention of member companies. Under her leadership the Center now serves over 470 member companies a year ranging in size and industry. Prior to joining The Center in 2001, Colleen worked in the nonprofit sector connecting volunteers to social services, assisting new immigrants in Boston, and supporting mental health services. She received her MBA and MSW from Boston College.
Karen Hoff
Senior Research Analyst, Membership, Boston College Center for Corporate CitizenshipKaren develops, executes, and analyzes surveys regarding corporate citizenship in her role as Senior Research Analyst for the Center. This includes the Center’s biennial State of Corporate Citizenship report, which focuses on the executive view of ESG. Karen previously worked in analytic consulting and has extensive experience with surveying. She earned her PhD in Journalism (mass communications) from the University of Missouri, where she focused on quantitative research methods.
Kyra Scalea
Head of Community Service Programs, VanguardKyra Scalea manages Vanguard’s Community Stewardship volunteer and giving programs. Kyra is responsible for overseeing Vanguard’s volunteer service for thousands of crew member at Vanguard’s three major U.S. sites in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona as well as for the firm’s global offices. She also manages the corporate matching gift program. Representing Vanguard to the local communities, Kyra often speaks on corporate citizenship, community service as part of the corporate culture and employee altruism. She currently serves on the Greater Philadelphia Corporate Volunteer Council as well as the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship Community Impact Roundtable.
