Supporting military families is vital to sustaining America’s all-volunteer force and a strong national defense. Needs are growing for more than 2 million currently serving and 21 million veterans, but philanthropy for military causes is not keeping pace. Military-serving groups account for less than two-tenths of 1 percent of nonprofit organizations’ overall assets and revenue, according to a 2015 analysis by the Center for a New American Security, “Charting the Sea of Goodwill.” Fewer than 20 percent of companies support the military among their top five philanthropic priorities according to the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship’s forthcoming Community Involvement Study. By empowering and sustaining military families, businesses can fill gaps left by government and community programs. During this session, USAA, a San Antonio-based financial services company, will share insights about how strengthening military families is consistent with your company’s mission, values, existing corporate commitments and community-based priorities.
